Lamanai is situated miles up the New River Lagoon, completely surrounded by lush jungle giving it a special quality and a cool environment. After a 1 hr drive on the Northern Highway, you board a boat for a 1hr ride on the river. Be on the lookout for all types of wildlife such as crocodiles, iguanas, birds, fishes and appreciate the different tones of green vegetation. This archaeological site is one of Belize’s largest, ancient ceremonial centers. It had the longest occupation period that ran from 1500 B.C. to the 18th century.
